Ferris wheels and fairy floss

I think it’s fairly apparent I have a passion for food and fashion. However, did you know there is something I’m slightly more passionate about….

Matilda Lily Rose born 09/02/2014

This week my gorgeous big sister and her husband welcomed their third baby into the world. Matilda Lily Rose (yes she’s going to be a diva fashionista with three names) and so once again my aunty brood expands. This is what I’m most passionate about! Food and fashion are fun but family is forever and the joy of spending time with my babies (yes I call them “my” babies) is like no other feeling in the world. Today, I head back to Queensland for my first cuddles with Matilda and it inspired me to write this week’s post as every time I head home, my inner child comes alive. I can be as silly and stupid as I want to be and my little angels think I am the funniest person alive (I must admit I can do an amazing Elmo impression). So sit back and enjoy the ride as this post explores some of Sydney’s hottest attractions that aren’t just for the young but also for the young at heart.

Luna-Park-Sydney-3Luna Park: We all know Angelina Jolie and her kids love it there and I do too! Luna Park was the setting for my latest fashion shoot with the talented Tracey Johnson and it’s full of colour and playfulness, just like Luna Park. I may not condone wearing heels to an amusement park but for fashion shoot purposes these were a must. I love the pop of the pink shorts from Witchery against the Ferris Wheel, I just wish I’d had that magical kiss at the top! Apart from all the rides and the sensational sideshow alley there’s much more on offer at Luna Park, including concerts at the Big Top, classy cuisine at The Deck or simply sitting back and taking in the million dollar views as you ride the Tango Train or Ferris Wheel!

Splashing around Sea Life Sydney Aquarium

Sea Life Sydney Aquarium: I love this place and in fact I took my niece Annabelle there when my sister brought her down to Sydney for a visit. Her favourite were the penguins and the fish that looked like Nemo. Sea Life Sydney Aquarium houses the world’s largest collection of all-Australian aquatic life. Throughout the journey from the start to the end you’ll encounter some of the world’s most incredible animals, including two of only five dugongs on display anywhere in the world, massive stingrays, majestic turtles, jellyfish, platypuses, penguins, thousands of tropical fish and much, much more.

Set in the heart of Sydney on beautiful Darling Harbour, Sydney Aquarium showcases over 12,000 aquatic animals from 650 species in spectacular habitat displays, including the world’s largest Great Barrier Reef exhibit and amazing underwater viewing tunnels. Take the opportunity to see the amazing creatures of the ocean. My Annabelle loved learning all about them and especially loved her dugong hat. Can you see a trendsetter in the making? Livvy May can!

Safari Style

Safari Style

Taronga Zoo: One of my favourites is by far Taronga Zoo. I have been obsessed with elephants since I was a child, even thinking I would one day move to Africa and work in an elephant orphanage (I guess there’s still time). The ferry ride over is what starts the day of off on the right foot, as you leave the city behind you and embark on your wild adventure. Lions and tigers and bears oh my, there are so many animals to see and explore and the midday bird show is a must and one of the highlights of my day. But of course, Nelly the elephant (I named her myself) was the star attraction for me. All in all a fun day out and if in the mood why not don some camouflage for super safari style!

Essentially, I want you to finish reading this post and realise there is more than just fine dining, bar hopping and boutique shopping in Sydney. Don’t get me wrong I adore all those things but sometimes it’s simply surreal and lovingly liberating to let your inner child roar.
