Need to know what must-have essentials you’ll need to keep you fighting fit and looking your most fabulous self this summer? Well you’ve found the right spot. Livvy May delivers her seasonal faves and more…
Summer is a time of year where as women we all want to look and feel our best. One of the terms I hear floating around is ‘bikini body ready’, which is almost impossible to do considering it’s the start of the silly season where it seems a glass of champagne is permanently attached to my right hand. You know what I’m talking about, right girls? However, this change in season has prompted me to start a new feature on Livvy May where I’ll be sharing my favourite products for the season whether it’s something for the body, for the mind or for the soul – beauty come in all forms and it’s all here and more.
First and foremost, you’ll need a tan and there are some great products on the market. As mentioned before ModelCo Tan Airbrush in a Can is a fabulous product I have used for years, however, I was recently introduced to Loving Tan which provides an instant tan in minutes. The unique formula provides you with an immediate colour, while developing into a deeper darker tan. The colour guide technology ensures an easy, streak free application every time and with different shades to suit all skin tones I was able to find the right shade to suit my ivory complexion or as my mum poetically describes my ‘peaches and cream’ skin. I also used their Tan Polishing and Removing glove which was a nice change from your normal exfoliator mitt as it was soft on my skin and appeared to help in peeling off remaining tan and rough patches. There’s an abundance of fantastic self-tanning products on the market, leading to a safer summer while still looking bronzed thanks to goodies from ModelCo and Loving Tan.
To ensure your tan lasts longer you’ll need a sublime moisturiser and this Ultra Body Moisturiser from UltraCeuticals is non-greasy and leaves your skin feeling velvety soft. Combined with Shea butter and Glycerin it provides long lasting hydration and is delicately fragranced with natural botanical oils which leaves your skin feeling a treat. To coincide with this top notch body balm you’ll need something for the face and I suggest a cream with an SPF such as this pearler from Kosmea which has an SPF 30, perfect for an Australian summer. However, if you feel you need something with anti-ageing remedies than UltraCeuticals Ultra Brightening Moisturising Cream has a lovely creamy texture and can be used sparingly so it lasts longer.
Greenies listen up, I’m sure you’ve heard of Sukin – Australian Natural Skincare range? Well Sukin is Australian made and owned and uses a generous blend of active botanicals, essential oils and natural ingredients, carefully selected to restore the vitality and radiance of your skin. I love their entire range and two of my faves are the Antioxident Eye Serum and Revitalising Facial Scrub. The scrub is dead set amazing and will leave your skin feeling as soft as a baby’s bottom. The serum is any non-mornings person best friend as it awakens tired eyes and soothes with aloe vera and cucumber to reduce puffiness and increase circulation.
For the hair, one must turn to the experts and Toni & Guy certainly belong in the expert category. I’m a regular user and often abuser of dry shampoo (particularly on lazy days when I can’t be bothered to wash my hair) and Toni & Guy do a great one, it doesn’t leave any residue in the hair (a concern when your hair is dark) and smells refreshingly light and delicate. Hair needs to not just look amazing but be healthy too which is why I’ve learnt to give it some extra love from time to time with a nourishing reconstruction mask – trust me your tresses will thank you by blowing effortlessly in the wind while looking tre chic!
Speaking of health, what about what goes in the body – food! We all know one of my favourite things to do is eat, eat, eat! I live for food and I love it! HOWEVER, I can’t eat everything I want all the time and expect to be healthy, fit and look the way I want to look so I need to ensure I am what I eat so to speak. Working full time, blogging, socialising, being a sister, daughter, aunty etc etc means I don’t have a lot of time to prepare a week’s worth of food so I ensure I have accessible items to make an easy meal for one (yes one – insert sad sniffles here). For an easy meal at home I can’t go past dumplings and this ready-made version from Dim Sum & Co are melt in your mouth amazeballs! What I love is they are super quick and easy, meaning I can have a tasty lunch, instant entertaining or delicious mid-week dinner in minutes. For snacking, I keep a variety of Slim Secrets bars on my desk so whenever I feel a little peckish I have something at my fingertips. In life we can make excuses about what we eat and why but be prepared with ready –made meals and snacks that are still delicious but kind on your waistline!
In the fashion stakes for summer one will need a killer pair of jelly sandals – yep you heard me? I have three pairs and love them! The traditional Jelly sandals will take you back to your childhood but teamed with a pair of cut off shorts will ensure you are still chic, edgy and a little bit hipster. I love this pair from Mel called Marshmellow – the colour is spot on trend and they smell like raspberries #yum! For bikinis that are borderline ‘too cool for school’, look no further than Triangl, with their creative concepts using neoprene and metallic fabrics this company is blitzing the social media world with some of the coolest images in town. I may not look like the girls they use in their summer campaigns but it’s all about being comfortable in your skin and in a pair of Traingl bikinis I feel just that (see outfit on side panel)!

Finally (notice that starts with an F – you’ll see a theme in a second) – I bring you two essentials for summer that begin with the letter F. Fresh flowers (an absolute must have) and Frank. Who is Frank you say? No he’s not my latest squeeze, he’s my new BFF. The most divine body scrub I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. He smoothes lumps and bumps, moisturises and improves skin tone and mends cellulite (alleluia, told you he was my new BFF)! Best of all he smells of (insert Ron Burgundy voice here) rich mahogany and coffee! Yippee!
I want to know what your summer essentials are so be sure to drop me a line… X x
