As you all know I work in social media for a news organisation and my equivalents from our other mastheads round the network use so many acronyms I don’t know, it’s making me feel my age. However, there is one acronym no fashionista forgets, the LBD and today I’ll be showcasing the perfect LBD for both work and weekend wear.
An LBD is defined by Urban Dictionary as, “a term used to define a little black dress which most women posess. The dress is most likely overworn but always seems appealing especially when added with accessories such as bangles and a clutch purse.”
I’ve said this time and time again, I’ve never been a huge wearer of the colour black, however, I find as I’m growing older it’s a shade I’m adopting more of in my everyday wardrobe. Simply because it’s not too loud, it’s simple and teamed with the appropriate accessories can be chic and sophisticated while still hinting at a small amount of sex appeal. When I think of the LBD, I always think of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s with her pearls, chignon bun and cigarillo, the epitome of style and sophistication – she paraded this look, and the design and the acronym was born.
My interpretation for this week’s shoot is very much downplayed. I’ve styled the sassy, tight version before but this time I opted for a shift style from Liberty Lee, one I quite often wear to work with kitten heels or pointed flats and a statement necklace. Or on weekends (as seen in this post) with slides, sunnies and a long but detailed gold chain. The dress is an ideal cut for corporate life, however loose enough for relaxed weekend wear and the cut out details make it edgy and spot on trend. The linen fabric is also great as it tends to keep it’s shape throughout the day between meetings and running around on weekends. Liberty Lee is responsible for the dress and are a Sydney based label where the design philosophy is Aussie beach girl meets Parisian cool vibes – no fuss, clean silhouettes with hints of feminine detailing. I love their vibe and the cuts and fabrics of their clothing and swimwear have certainly grabbed my attention this summer. Remember the black bikini featured a few weeks back on Livvy May? This was also from the girls at Liberty Lee.
The Senso slides are a weekend saviour for this look, they take a somewhat conservative summer dress and add a touch of bohemian with the eclectic leopard type print and slightly higher platform. I also love the gold necklace from Minc Collections which is constantly on high rotation and adds a pop to my everyday looks.
Would love to know who your LBD style inspirations are? Is is a little Breakfast at Tiffany’s vibe like me or can you not go past some Coco Chanel? Until next time, lotsa love, LM x x
