The seasons are changing and with these changes comes a wardrobe makeover or in some cases a simple uplift. In this post I’m going to tell you how to adopt this fresh flare to your current closet with pieces that will last you for seasons to come.
As winter approaches and the cooler months set in, I always spend a weekend going through my wardrobe and cleaning out unwanted items from the season before. Having a spring clean is a great way to clear space for new items and allows you to determine what staples you really need to see you through the season ahead. I also find with each item I throw away I realise my style needs to adopt a more classic mix as opposed to buying what’s on trend as I want to own pieces that will last the test of time.
These are some of the key items you should adopt in your winter wardrobe:
- A leather jacket – it works with everything from jeans and tees to a skirt and shirt. It also looks fab with a knitted dress and choker and ALL footwear. Yep, you heard me right, sneakers, heels, boots and strappy sandals, everything works when you throw a leather jacket into the mix.
- The perfect pair of jeans – whether they be skinny fit, boyfriend style or style leg, jeans will NEVER go out of style. One of my favourite high street outlets for jeans is Topshop. The cuts seem to fit my body perfectly and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
- Simple accessories in a tone that suits your complexion – I love tans and gold as I have fair skin and I feel these colours add a touch of brightness. I love fine, simple jewellery that doesn’t take too much away from an outfit but adds to it.
- Boots in a colour that will work with all prints and patterns – I prefer a small sleek boot with a small heel so I can last in them all day. These boots from Mimco in a neutral shade are perfect with dresses in autumn or jeans in winter. There’s something very sophisticated about the modern day boot, making you feel more fashionista and less Daisy Duke.
So, what staples will you be adding to your wardrobe this season?
