Some women have fantasies involving a policeman, a fireman or even a doctor but I have to admit I’m actually partial to a sailor myself.Enter the topic of today’s blog post and no it’s not about sailors, however, The Sailors Club in beautiful Rose Bay. When I resided in Double Bay, there was nothing I enjoyed more than a Saturday morning walk down to watch the boats come and go at Rose Bay. In fact there’s plenty to do in this delightful area, including paddle boarding and tennis. So why not hit one of my fave spots for lunch – The Sailors Club and then work your meal off afterwards (or not, I had too much wine with my lunch #foodcoma).
Lit with yellow and blue decor, one can really be transfixed when entering this lush space, with its crisp white furnishings and striped interiors, I truly felt like it may be my lucky day (to run into a sailor)! My lunch started with a Blood Orange Bellini, which was oh so tasty and rather refreshing after my Friday night out on the town. To follow my companions enjoyed oysters, a food that I have not acquired a taste for. Therefore I feel I cannot pass judgement myself, however, my friends were thrilled with the succulent morsels guzzling down a dozen between them and even ordering more. I believe that means they were a hit!
My main was in fact the fish of the day (FOD), barramundi on a bed of sugar snap peas, sweet potato puree and topped with ham hock and micro herbs. It was sensational – fresh, creamy with a hint of sweetness from the sugar snap peas and good dose of saltiness from the ham. A well balanced and delightful dish, I only hope they make it a permanent fixture on the menu so I can go back for more. The service was five star, however, I always feel strange when someone refers to me as maim – it remind me of the card game Old Maid and no woman wants to feel old. Having said that, our waiter was thorough with the specials, helpful with selections and most importantly prompt with the wine; what more could a girl ask for.
Well dessert, that’s what more a girl could ask for and this, was one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had. Warm Strawberry and Rhubarb Crumble, Strawberry Cream Cheese Ice Cream & Basil. OM to the G, it was unreal. I pretty much think anything with rhubarb is unreal after cooking it for my dad endless times when I was growing up but this dessert takes the cake (so to speak) and had me scraping the bottom of my bowl for that extra bit more.
When it came to fashion, I must admit this place was full of outstanding outfits I would love to wear on any day of the week. For a lunch by the bay I never want to be too overdressed, I think simple, yet elegant is the way to go and this look achieves just that but still adopts my token Livvy May edge by adding the sunglasses from Quay. These shorts from Witchery have been seasonal faves as the colour pops without being ‘in your face’ and goes beautifully with black or white for both day and night looks. The necklace, also from Witchery, well #nuffsaid – it’s a standout!
So, what you’ve all been waiting for, did I find my sailor? Alas I did not, but perhaps I can venture over to New York this year and go crazy at Fleet Week like the girls from Sex and the City did in Season 5 or I might just settle for a fireman instead. Much love, Livvy May X x
