Summer Escape

From the title of this post I imagine you’re thinking of coconuts, bikinis, palm trees and cocktails well, think again as this is about a summer escape but it’s all about escaping the summer.

The Blue Mountains is one of the most picturesque parts of New South Wales and I’m lucky enough to only live a two hour drive from this perfect weekend getaway spot. When Sydney turns up the heat, the area we live can get very busy so escaping to the mountains for some cooling down and R&R can often be exactly what the love doctor ordered. It can also be a trip to reacquaint yourself with activities outside of technology, like arts and crafts, hiking and drinking wine by the fire. I’ve already sold it to you, right?

Another reason to head to the mountains apart from its picturesque and breathtaking views is the food (come on, you knew I was going to say that).  From quaint cafes to fine dining, it offers a smorgasbord in feasting options and my pick of the lot has to be, hands down, Leura Garage. The service is great, the people are friendly and the food is even better and the encore we received was incredible but I’ll get to that later… The menu changes regularly but being a tapas style menu (my favourite kind) there’s always plenty of great choices and 3-4 plates between two people was ideal matched with exquisite wine of course. Amongst our choices were pizza, pasta, amazing size dishes of vegetables and Mediterranean meats that were simply scrumptious.  What took the night to the next level was an impromptu performance by an opera singer who sang Happy Birthday to my boyfriend, the most wonderful present of the night. After a wonderful meal and an incredible performance it was so nice to walk through a quiet, quaint town back to our hotel where we ordered another glass of red wine and chilled by the fire. Something you simply cannot do in Sydney when it’s 30 degrees outside. I imagine it’s a little like what Christmas must feel like for people in Europe and the US who experience the cooler climate during the festive season.

When in the Blue Mountains, a coat is essential but considering it’s summer, something bright and bold was definitely what I wanted when enjoying my summer escape. This pink coat from Boohoo has been the perfect staple, teamed with simple white jeans and this amazing cameo tank (which unfortunately isn’t available anymore) and some simple booties is the perfect ensemble for the mountains. Team it with sneakers for the day and add the heeled boots and a some statement rings for an evening look.

The other beautiful thing about Leura is the village vibe the town has. You can spend the days strolling the streets looking at the cake shops, the leather stores and dining on tea and treats throughout the various boutiques. And yes there’s always time for pasta, especially when it’s smothered with parmesan cheese and accompanied by a crisp glass of white wine.

While getaways may seem like a time for indulgence, what I love about about the mountains is it’s actually more about the simple things. Escaping the city for tranquility, peace and quiet and some good old fashioned romance. Where do you like to escape the relentless summer heat?

Until next time, lotsa love, Livvy May x x
